Zombie 描述了愛爾蘭與英國 1916 年以來的衝突。如歌詞中提到的「it’s the same old theme since 1916」，作者在英國目擊了兩個小孩因自己國家的炸彈攻擊而消逝，她身為愛爾蘭人，譜下了心中的百感交集。影片為 Janet Devlin 演唱版本。綠寶石般的雙眼，沈痛地質疑戰爭的殘酷。
筆者的 2 cents：
Are we mistaken? But you see, it’s not me, it’s not my family, in your head…. 這句歌詞太令人震動了！多少次，我們有點懷疑自己的時候（Are we mistaken?），馬上，自我保護啟動：「但不是我害的呀」。後面接的 in your head，如果讀者去查字典，它有個意思是：「都只是你的幻想」。這樣子逃避的想法，每個人一定都有過，也因此引起了聽眾的相當程度共鳴。後記：讀者再多聽幾次會發現， 這邊的唱法似乎是轉換了語氣，好像聽見了那些「政客」在說「反正不是我，反正不是我的家人」。
這邊注意「in your head」其實唱了兩次，第二次的 In your head, they are fighting / dying 給我的感覺，是在表達「你有想過嗎？他們正在死亡」，到後來的「What’s in your head」作者質問「究竟在想什麼！？」，你們沒有良心嗎？你們是 Zombie 嗎！？
in your head 這種類似中文「頂真」的修辭法（前後句用詞重覆），在下面這句歌詞也可以看到：「With their tanks, and their bombs, And their bombs, and their guns」，連用了兩次 bomb 實在太妙了。
