「做中學, learning by doing」之父 John Dewey 曾說：”I believe that education, therefore, is a process of living and not a preparation for future living.” 既然廣泛閱讀/視聽的教育活動，主要都是在「利用語言來取得娛樂或知識」（也就一種人類真實生活中的活動），那麼我們可以說，廣泛閱讀/視聽其實可以算是一種 learning by doing 的教育方法。
Dewey 進一步解釋：“I believe that the school must represent present life-life as real and vital to the child as that which he carries on in the home, in the neighborhood, or on the playground.” 按照這個想法，實驗課程利用非同步遠距教學的方式是個更棒的做法！學習者不是在教室，而是在「真實的生活環境」中參與課程活動。並且，因為作業內容是要取得娛樂或知識，所以課程活動內容更是為了「真實生活的目的」而設計。在這樣子的課程裡，老師的角色變成了教練，透過鼓勵、協助、提供輔助工具等等方式，領導所有學生不停去「做中學」。而最終，我們期待課程活動結速後，目標語言的利用行為仍會存在於學習者的真實生活中。
