怎麼會，以「理解活動」為核心廣泛閱讀教學法，不應該使用「理解測驗」？Krashen 回答到  “this is counter to the ideas underlying extensive reading” (Wang, 2013).

Krashen 在 2003 曾說：“Free voluntary reading [extensive reading] may be the most powerful tool we have in language education. In fact, it appears to be too good to be true… with a strong impact on reading, comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing” (p. 15) 然而，廣泛閱讀的有用性，在亞洲廣泛地被老師和大眾質疑，尤其是台灣。他們認為，廣泛閱讀不足以幫助學習者在「考試導向」並且高度競爭的教育制度下存活。換句話說，重要的不止是有效，更要有效率才行！針對這個看法，其實已有相當多的研究成果支持廣泛閱讀及視聽，整理如下。

「做中學, learning by doing」之父 John Dewey 曾說：”I believe that education, therefore, is a process of living and not a preparation for future living.” 既然廣泛閱讀/視聽的教育活動，主要都是在「利用語言來取得娛樂或知識」（也就一種人類真實生活中的活動），那麼我們可以說，廣泛閱讀/視聽其實可以算是一種 learning by doing 的教育方法。相較之下，在台灣，甚至是全世界，大部份的語言教育風格都是在利用「講授與測驗」來幫學習者準備足夠的能力，以求未來能夠利用語言去取得知識或娛樂。

單就語言學習來說，看影片比看文字多了「聲音和影像」兩個輸入的 channel，感覺學習效果就是會比較好對吧！話雖如此，當筆者請教廣泛閱讀專家的意見時，得到的回應卻是：「看影片學習英語會比閱讀文字好嗎？有科學證據嗎？」。這才發現原來以影片做為學習素材，在學界是備受質疑的。
