百分比及小數的英語用法 Percent, Percentage, Decimal
百分比的用法繁多，主要分為複合名詞、複合形容詞、複合副詞三種用法。然而因為是數學符號，英語用法的解釋甚少，筆者參考字典以及這篇文章，再加上一些新聞實例供讀者體會。
- 「複合名詞」最為常見，例如 More than 80 percent of the class have passed the exam. 這裡的 80 percent of the class 是主詞，而動詞是 pass。又因為 class 是集合名詞，在本句指的是全班的學生，所以使用複數動詞 have。
- 「複合形容詞」用法例如 The mill achieved a 27 percent increase in production last quarter. 這裡的 27 與 percent 合起來修飾 increase 這個名詞。P.S. increase 可以是名詞也可以是動詞。
- 「複合副詞」用法例如 I’m 99.9 percent sure that I am right. 本句 percent 修飾形容詞 sure。此外，副詞還能修飾動詞。例如 I agree with her 100 percent.
